Tuition protection for overseas and VSL students

Version 1.3 | 28/03/2024

Under the Australian Government Tuition Protection Service (TPS) framework, if our Registered Training Organisation (RTO) is unable to fulfil our obligations to complete your training, the TPS framework will facilitate your placement to another provider in the first instance, and where this is not possible, may provide a refund of un-expended tuition fees.

TPS for overseas students on a Student Visa

This information applies to overseas students on a Student Visa.

If our RTO ceases operations, fails to provide a course-intake, or stops offering a course-intake part-way through, this may be classified under the TPS as a ‘default’. If we are unable to provide you with an acceptable internal remedy, we are obligated to:

  • arrange for you to finish your studies with another provider, or
  • give you a refund of unspent tuition fees you have paid to us.

If you have applied for a refund and you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can begin an internal complaints process with us. If you are unhappy with the outcome of the internal complaints process, you can contact the Commonwealth Ombudsman.

If your provider does not find you a suitable replacement course or offer you a refund the TPS will help you.

TPS for domestic students with a VET Student Loan (VSL)

This information applies to domestic students using a VET Student Loan (VSL).

If our RTO closes, ceases operations, fails to provide a course-intake, or stops offering a course-intake part-way through, this may be classified under the TPS as a ‘default’.

If you have a VET Student Loan and we default, the TPS can either help you continue your studies in a suitable replacement course or, if a suitable replacement course is not available, arrange a loan re-credit.
