Assessment procedures

Version 2.0 | 15/10/2020

These procedures are to be read and used subject to our assessment policies.

Submission of assessment evidence

Each assessment task will include specific information on how to format and submit your assessment evidence.

In general, you are to submit assessment evidence which:

  • is in fully completed form, as specified by the assessment task
  • has your name and Student-ID clearly shown
  • has your acknowledgement / signature (if/as required)
  • is in accordance with our assessment integrity policy.

Assessment evidence is to be submitted:

  • in printed form in the Assessment Dropbox in the administrator’s office
  • in electronic form (PDF preferred), or in scanned form, by email to: assessments@paravion.com.au

Assessment evidence is not to be otherwise left-for or handed-to staff members.

Extensions to assessment tasks procedure

Each assessment task has a due-date and you must submit your completed assessment evidence by the due date.

If you have a legitimate reason you cannot submit by the due-date, contact the assessor by email before the due-date to request an extension. Extensions are provided in writing (ie by email) only. Note: extensions are at the discretion of the assessor and cannot be assumed.

If the due-date for an assessment task has passed and you have not made reasonable attempt to submit your completed assessment, or to request an extension, then your result for the task will be assessed as Not-Yet-Competent.

If the ending date of your course has passed and you have not submitted assessment/s by required due-dates or extension-dates, we will charge an administration fee of $30.00 to assess each of your assessment submissions. This fee is charged at our discretion and payable in advance of each assessment.

Re-assessment procedures

If you have been assessed as Not-Yet-Competent (NYC) for a specific assessment:

  • the assessor will provide assessment feedback and advise how your performance can be improved
  • you will be offered the opportunity to be re-assessed.

Re-assessment fees – CASA exams and flight tests

  • where there are specific fees for re-assessment such as external aviation examinations or flight tests, fees for re-assessment are payable by you
  • if you choose to be re-assessed:
    • you must complete a Learning and Assessment Extension Form (available on the Student Portal) – to be completed with your assessor/instructor and submitted to the RTO Administrator
    • re-assessment will not take place until we have received and processed your Learning and Assessment Extension Form
  • see further information about CASA exams and re-sit fees .

Re-assessment fees – assessments tasks in VET courses

  • if you choose to resubmit an assessment task, we will provide one re-assessment with no further fee – on the proviso you have made a reasonable attempt of the assessment task
  • if a subsequent assessment submission is also assessed as Not-Yet-Competent, and you then choose to re-submit the assessment task:
    • you must complete a Learning and Assessment Extension Form (available on the Student Portal) – to be completed with your assessor/instructor and submitted to the RTO Administrator
    • re-assessment will not take place until we have received and processed your Learning and Assessment Extension Form
    • fees for re-assessments will be payable by you in advance as follows:
      • $50.00 per re-assessment of standard assessment tasks
      • $90.00 per re-assessment of substantial assessment tasks (e.g. projects, portfolios, significant designs).

Re-assessment fees – deferring to a VET Student Loan (VSL)

If you are deferring tuition fees to VSL, you may request the re-assessment fees be added to your VSL debt. This is permissible only where you have sufficient VSL FEE-HELP balance to cover the fees by course completion; and before the final census-date within your course.

Assessment appeals procedure

See the assessment appeals procedure.

Reasonable adjustments in assessment procedure

If you have a disability; special need; or language, literacy or numeracy (LLN) need which may require us to make a reasonable adjustment to facilitate your assessment, you are to:

  • disclose your disability / need on appropriate parts of forms during the application process
  • discuss your disability / need with our staff during pre-enrolment processes
  • discuss your disability / need with our training staff during induction.

Our staff will decide on the appropriate reasonable adjustments we can provide (if any), and advise you of their decision. We allow scope for reasonable negotiation of our decisions, but we do not provide an internal appeal mechanism for these decisions. If an applicant does not agree with our decision, their application and enrolment will not proceed.

Ongoing needs and issues can be further discussed with assessors during the course, and with our Student Support Officer.
