Orientation

We provide a one or two day orientation program for all students undertaking full-time Tertiary Courses. The purpose of the orientation program is to help you adjust to study and life here, to help you achieve your learning goals, and to achieve satisfactory academic progress towards meeting the learning outcomes of the course. Topics generally covered are:

  • Introduction to staff members
  • Course overview and outcomes
  • Student Handbook including general policies and procedures
  • Student Support Officer:
    • Welfare support services
    • Learning support services
  • Key contacts and emergency contacts
  • Evacuation and emergency procedures
  • Code of conduct/behaviour
  • Uniform and dress requirements
  • Student identification
  • Continuous improvement and student feedback
  • Living in Hobart including transportation, accommodation, trading hours, banking, hospitals etc.
  • Overview of student visa conditions (overseas students only)
  • Attendance and course progress
  • Work health, safety and security
  • Teaching and student facilities
  • Aircraft, simulators/synthetic flight trainers, and maintenance facilities
  • ICT resources and acceptable use
